A proposal to the Worcester Tourism Association & Breede Valley Municipality for “Worcester brand” street signage.

Church Street is Worcester’s artery through the historic core. As the name suggests, old churches adorn this two-lane road and heritage buildings are aplenty. However, this street is not living up to its potential. Although some boutique retail and accommodation is setting up shop here, its diversity and level of investment is lacking, when compared to other Cape Winelands towns.

To act as an economic catalyst, both to improve the pedestrian-friendliness of the district, as well as to upgrade the urban environment, a pseudo-pedestrianisation scheme is proposed. Slowing traffic down through speed calming measures, realigning the two-lane road to a one-way, aesthetically paved, street. This allows for increased sidewalk space and a seamless, more antiquated, feel to the paved spaces (both pedestrian and vehicular).
